STRATEGIC INITIATIVES

Note: The Vancouver Agreement (VA) expired in March 2010. This website chronicled the life of the VA and still provides information about the Agreement and the projects it funded. For a retrospective overview see Vancouver Agreement 2000-2010 Highlights.

The following vision for inner-city communities drives the work of the Vancouver Agreement (VA):

“The community continues to include and support lower-income individuals and families, and people who require specialized services for mental illness and addiction. It should also be open to new people, lifestyles and businesses.”

The guiding principles of the VA are coordination, innovation, policy change, investment, and monitoring & evaluation.

There are four strategic initiatives to achieve this vision:

In the VA’s final year, many of its activities related to these strategic initiatives are being integrated into other government programs. For example, the province is working closely with the City of Vancouver to increase the affordable housing stock in the inner city. The City, with provincial funding, has embarked on the Downtown Eastside Intergovernmental Initiative and the federal government is continuing to fund economic revitalization.
